Lengthening of i and u in Persian

Abstract : This paper discusses instances of unetymologically long i and u in word-final syllables of Middle and New Persian. It will suggest that the relevant cases of ī and ū are due to a regular sound change of Middle Persian, and will attempt to define the conditions of this change.
