Valerius of Bierzo and his ‘hagiographical compilation’

Valère du Bierzo et sa ‘compilation hagiographique’

Résumé

Valerius of Bierzo was an hermit ; he lived in the north-west of the Iberian Peninsula in the VIIth century. He is mainly known for two kinds of works: texts written in the first person (where he narrates his experiences in the solitude), and a collection of hagiographical and ascetic texts he gathered (generally called the "hagiographical compilation of Valerius"). In the first part of this presentation, I briefly describe his life and works. Afterwards, I present with more details the "hagiographical compilation", the manuscripts that contain it and the texts it is made of, trying to insist particularly on the specific problems raised by such a 'dossier' and the way digital methods can help use solve them.
