Interroger les bases de données géographiques pour mieux renseigner les territoires de cohabitation entre l’animal et l’humain

Abstract : The Authors use the example of three diseases transmittable by animals, not uncommon in the Metropolis of Greater Paris (MGP), to explore a certain kind of link between humans and animals in places both could visit. The aim was to analyse this copresence at a metropolitan scale. A global approach was adopted to investigate these links, using geographical databases. The places concerned are described in many spatialized databases. Therefore it is instructive to assess their ability to reflect the spatial and temporal aspect of places of coexistence and possible contamination between humans and animals, at least through examination of their metadata. The most well-known databases are assessed in virtue of their different dimensions: semantic (do the places of contact appear in the index ?), spatial (are the places of contact large enough to be characterized ?) and temporal (is the repeatability of the updates good enough ?) as well as through possible barrier effects. Only one currently satisfies these three criteria : the Île-de-France Region Land Use (MOS) database. The “zoonotic barrier” effect is, along with spatial resolution, the best shared capability, whereas temporal resolution, along with the semantic resolution, is the least well shared.
