Le musée de Marine du Louvre : un musée des techniques ?

Abstract : Paris Maritime Museum is built in 1827 from collections of model ships. The initial scheme is to preserve and display shipbuilding, its tools and infrastructure. But because the museum is located inside le Louvre and coming under the authority of the Fine Arts department for more than seventy years, the identity of its collections is blurred. The function of the museum, between preservation, research, instruction and propaganda tool, is also frequently questioned.
