La préposition dans au XVIe siècle. Apports d’une linguistique instrumentée

Abstract : The preposition dans is recent in French. Its use increased considerably since about 1550, at least in literary texts, and it quickly became one of the most common French prepositions. Why such a success ? In this article, we evaluate the hypothesis formulated by A. Darmesteter (1885) to explain this sudden fortune of dans. Our approach is based on a quantitative and qualitative analysis of data collected in the diachronic French corpus Presto.
