Sophie Montel revisits the controversy surrounding the architectural setting of the Knidian Aphrodite. She reconsiders the Roman textual and archaeological evidence, including the ruins at Knidos and the nymphaeum at Hadrian’s villa at Tivoli, to find the evidence inconclusive.
