Du maculisme à l'immaculisme : controverses doctrinales et dévotions mariales dans la « Tierra de Campos » médiévale

Abstract : In 1466, the inhabitants of Villalpando collectively proclaimed the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Placed in its context, this call appears to be an excellent means to grasp Late Middle Ages representations in Castile. More, it allows to better understand the social divisions around the notion of lineage. However, the questioning about Mary’s purity was not new and what the 15th century crowds strongly wished, the dogma, seemed to be unthinkable to some 13th century authors. It is therefore through social pressure, which is bound to change, that we’ll try to explain the evolving perceptions of that matter in medieval Castile.
