Inhabitant’s involvement in the so-called sustainable neighborhoods : towards a landscape participation?

In the context of concern about environmental issues and sustainable development, landscape is a recurrent concern. This interest comes along with an increasing consideration of desires and expectations of inhabitants. In this context, this article aims to highlight the links between sustainable neighborhood and inhabitants involvement, and the potential role of landscape in this relationship. We deliver here some of the results of the analysis of a methodological approach articulating 100 interviews, 27 multisensory walks and 23 multisensory pouches, as well as 9 semi-structured interviews with stake holders of 3 sustainable neighborhoods : WGT (Amsterdam - Netherlands), BO01 and Augustenborg (Malmo - Sweden). According to the neighborhoods studied, the inhabitant’s involvement is uneven and the landscape appears to have primarily an object status, supporting inhabitant’s involvement through occasional landscape projects. Despite the potential that it may be carrying, the landscape is often a tool of this involvement.

Le paysage apparaît aujourd’hui comme une préoccupation récurrente dans le cadre de la montée en puissance des problématiques environnementales et du développement durable, accompagnées d’une considération de plus en plus accrue des envies et attentes des habitants. Dans ce contexte, notre article vise à mettre en évidence les liens entre quartier durable et implication habitante d’une part, et le rôle potentiel du paysage dans cette relation d’autre part. Nous livrons ici une partie des résultats de l’analyse d’une démarche méthodologique articulant 100 entretiens, 27 parcours et 23 baluchons multisensoriels auprès d’habitants et 9 entretiens semi-directifs auprès d’acteurs de 3 quartiers durables : WGT (Amsterdam - Pays-Bas), BO01 et Augustenborg (Malmö - Suède). Selon les quartiers étudiés, l’implication des habitants est inégale et le paysage se révèle avoir avant tout un statut d’objet, support de l’implication habitante, par l’intermédiaire des projets paysagers ponctuels. Malgré le potentiel dont il peut être porteur, le paysage est rarement un outil de cette implication.
