Rencontres hérétiques dans les monastères de Kaifeng: le bouddhisme tantrique vu par le roman en langue vulgaire des Ming et des Qing

Abstract : By analysing the role played by esoteric buddhism in Chinese novels from the Ming and Qing dynasties, this chapter shows the way tantric themes are both looked upon with caution (as they are often associated with strangeness, violence, or even savagery) and considered as key supernatural element in the empowering of some famous heroic figures met in the narratives. The chapter analyzes works such as Xu Jin Ping Mei, Xia xiyang ji, Zhou zao ji,San Sui ping yao zhuan. Xiyou ji and Shuihu zhuan.
