Les Pères Blancs, acteurs du jeu colonial. Mission catholique et enjeux politiques en Haute-Volta au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale

Abstract : Beyond the official discourse and above the heated debate that has often dominated the historiography of politico-religious relations, we find a Catholic mission that is heavily involved in public life in Upper Volta 1940-1950. Even if they sometimes seem to have a more visible influence, it was rather on the back-stage of colonial drama that the White Fathers emerged as political actors. With their training of the elite and their building networks and pragmatic alliances, the mission took on a stature that made them indispensable in the colonial venture.
