Critères de marginalité spatiale dans un contexte urbain nord-américain. Le cas de Little Armenia

Abstract : Spatial marginality is the result of a group's isolation according to its ethnic and social belongings. The case of Little Armenia in Los Angeles allows to analyze the several factors of spatial marginalization, process which is both constrained and chosen. The symbolic and material expression of the neighbourhood's frontiers, the practical experiences and discourses of the Armenian and non-Armenian populations, are revealing the highly-segregated urban organization of the major american cities. The marginalization of Little Armenia, in Los Angeles, could also be analyzed in the Armenian diaspora, among which a part of its members is developing stigmatizing discourses about this neighbourhood.
