Résumé
This paper is an exploration of a specific form of modern religious art among Shvetamabara Murtipujak Jains, namely hangings on velvet making use of the technique of golden and silver thread embroidery supplemented with sequins and billions and provided with an embroidered inscription (in Hindi or Gujarati) at the basis giving information about date, religious instigators and sponsors. This is the first systematic study of these objects, of their designations, contexts, usages and themes.
