"Nella Selva Oscura"…: Discovering Liszt

Abstract : 2011, the current "Liszt year," marks the 200th anniversary of Franz Liszt’s birth. In celebration, "Liszt: A Chorus of Voices" contains the results of scholarly research and the opinions of more than a few academics. It presents personal as well as professional information about its contributors, their lives and experiences, and the books, articles, performances, recordings, and other products they have created along Lisztian lines. This article explains the author's discovery of Liszt and his music, and the stakes and issues of modern Lisztian research as far as sources study is concerned. New hermeneutics and the confrontation of the "poetical truth" to the "empirical truth" must be based on philology and thoroughly studied sources.
