Expressions adjectivales de la comparaison: étude comparée français -allemand

Abstract : This article is devoted to the morphology and the semantics of complex adjectives (i.e. adjectives formed through derivation or composition) in their adnominal use both in German and in French. The starting point of the study is the comparative concept of COMPARISON. The morphology of the comparative adjective includes a source lexeme whose semantic features are at least partially mapped onto the target noun in a fashion descried by Lakoff & Johnson. Special attention is paid to two types of comparative adjectives : those involving a prototype (French pauvre comme Job, « as poor as a mouse in a church ») and those which can be seen as limit cases of composition, one of the constituants being used for serial production (German stock-, grund-, sau- or -förmig,-ähnlich…).
