Abstract : This article aims to compare the intensity of nocturnal atmospheric heat islands and the temperatures of the targets generated by thermal imaging (band 10) using the Landsat 8 satellite in Presidente Prudente, a medium-sized city located in the tropical environment, in the dry season. To do that, the urban heat island was modeled (Amorim et al., 2015) by estimating the air temperature for the intra-urban environment and the nearby rural environment, considering the surface characteristics (land use, vegetation, and relief) and the temperature map of the targets based on the thermal channel (Landsat 8). The results showed that the surface temperatures, despite being taken on the same day as images used for the land use classification and NDVI, which resulted in the modeling of the atmospheric heat island and reached 9°C in intensity, did not present a surface heat island for the time the images were taken (1:22 pm GMT).
