Modéliser pour percevoir le disparu. : L’église Sainte-Marie de Savigny (Xe-XIIe siècle)

Abstract : Nearly entirely dismantled from the French Revolution, the abbey of Savigny hardly presents perceptible remains in the current village. The archaeological interest of this site, which has been undervalued for long, is however important due to the conservation of few walls within recent buildings. Located at the heart of the abbey area, the “cuvier” keeps remains of the second church of the monastery, wich is dedicated to the Virgin. Archaeological studies of the building have made it possible to define a complex chronology of construction and to put forward a reproduction for each one of the four identified stages. Thanks to the close collaboration between the archaeologist and the graphic designer, it has been possible to produce 3 D models using the archaeological drawings and 2 D reproductions. This virtual material is an excellent pedagogical support which has the advantage to juxtapose pictures of the old and of the current building. It also allows the archaeologist to have a real 3 D analysis.
