La vie de château d’un vaisselier : Roquevaire près Marseille, 1593

Abstract : A rich archaeological material brought to light by ancient excavations out of context but stratified though has been integrated recently into the State Collections of Provence. This domestic instrumentum has been definitely celled in 1593 by the fire of a castle. Hence, four hundred ceramics offer an instant of consumption in an aristocratic residence in Marseilles' hinterland. The artifacts damaged though by fire provide an incomparable reference because of the diversity of their provenances, of a Renaissances' "vaisselier". The latter testifies of regional deliveries mainly from Frejus and far away imports as well, e.g. from Pisa and Montelupo on the one hand and from Liguria, Valencia and Catalonia on the other hand. This very collection constitutes a 16th century unicum observatory from Provence which fills a dramatic lacuna, for not any equivalent series are known in Marseilles. Also, it eyewitnesses what texts, underwater excavations and work shops revealed with regard to dominant positions.
