Du fait linguistique au(x) genre(s) : oralité et scripturalité à l'époque classique

Abstract : We are studying in this paper the relationship between literary genres and the relative pronoun “lequel” throughout the seventeeth century. We are showing that the use of the relative pronoun can be explained, in addition to various linguistic phenomena, by an opposition between the contexts of discourse production. We distinguished in that the so-called “written” genres and intended for silent reading, such as novels and essays, and spoken genres, such as plays, correspondence or prayers. Our analysis, based on recent studies of the genres grammar, allows us therefore to explain some aspects of the relative pronoun “lequel” during the seventeenth century.
