Not an ordinary defendant, an extraordinary archives: Adolf Eichmann's writings in Jerusalem
Un accusé extraordinaire, une archive hors du commun: les écrits d'Adolf Eichmann à Jérusalem
Résumé
Fabien Théofilakis discovered a new corpus of Eichmann’s writtings, while he was involved in the exhibition organized by the Memorial de la Shoah in 2011 on the Eichman Trial. These papers included thousands of pages written by the defendant during his trial as well as those composed in his jail cell. The file contians Eichmann’s personal papers and those meant for his council for use in his defense. The source allows Théofilakis to address the last « role » played by the former SS officier, that of the one of the « cautious bureaucrate ». Théofilakis discussed the ways in which historians have dealt with the published part of this documentation so far and exposed their methodological concerns. He then provided the first attempt at using theses writings as sources for a new history on the trial as understood through the critical perspective of the defendant in the glass booth.
