L’estampe comme base d’un travail héraldique. Les recueils d’armoiries de l’enlumineur Alexis Naquet (1722-1730)

Abstract : Alexis Naquet was official illuminator for the French clergy in the early 18th century: during the 1720s he made several rolls of arms for the bishops of the time. In this work, Naquet uses prints to rationalise his production: the recurrent elements of the coats of arms are printed, and each is hand painted according to specifications. Here we present the first list of his works from six institutions in France and the UK.
