From electricity to waste: infrastructure crisis and urban protests in Lebanon
Résumé
This paper, drawing on an urban political ecology perspective, analyses the failures and repeated crisis of the electric and waste management infrastructure in Lebanon as the result not only of the crippled politics of Lebanon but also in light of the long term policies of reconstructing and transforming the physical environment of Beirut. The paper adresses the recent street protests and other less visible urban mobilizations and discusses their potential for changing politics and rebuild the city according to alternative principles.
