"Et ut pacem et concordiam inter eos reformaremus" : pacto y consenso en el enterno del monasterio de Sahagún (siglos XI-XIII)

Abstract : The narrated account of the anonymous reviewer from Sahagún is in accordance with what professor Nieto Soria calls “A consensus linked to a conflictual process” in the presentation of the conference. Within the framework of the rebellions that occurred in Sahagún at the beginning of the 12th century, one can surprisingly observe that the “minor people” could gather as hermandad. Is this a literary representation of violence or else: the description of an actual social truth? Are we facing some activism made of resistance and solidarity born among people against the power of the abbot? Here is the overview of some themes I offer to analyse in this communication. While trying to exceed the formal approach of an open social conflict, I will try to analyse the expressions of the organization established by the rioters, as well as their demands, their successes and the rebel’s failures in the context of an abadengo system, in the very heart of the kingdom of Leon-Castile at the beginning of the 12th century.
