Towards a Typology of Cross-Channel Dramatic Borrowings

Résumé

Against the background of the work done to date on French cultural and literary influence on Early Modern English drama, proposes a classification of the kinds of transmission involved, ranging from outright translation in whole or in part to forms of intertextual reflection and inflection implicating a wide range of source material. Shakespeare's plays are a primary, though not an exclusive, focus.
