Abstract : Debates about the Greek crisis oppose Mnimoniakoi, those who back the Memorandum, the text that binds the greek government to the Troika (its lenders: IMF, the European Central Bank and the European Commission) and anti-mnimoniakoi, those who oppose this agreement. This opposition also divides political parties between europeanists, who cling to the European projet for Greece, and anti-europeanists, who wish to disentangle Greece from its european route. In this context, the question behind this debate about the crisis is the place of Greece within the United Europe: is this the end of europeanism in the country? This essay proposes to revisit the (contradictory) terms of the debate and their relation to well identified patterns of representation of collective identities. The analysis of interactions between "occidental" observers and "oriental" observed uses the ethno-orientalism/ethno-occidentalism couple proposed by James Carrier (1992).
