The reign of Husraw I Anōšīrwān / Chosroes (531-579), the most remarkable one during the Sasanian dynasty, was pivotal in the history of Iran. During that period, far-reaching projects to restructure the state affected all strata of society, royal power was strengthened and the country experienced significant cultural development. No major scientific gathering was devoted to this subject, and here are published the proceedings of a symposium organized in Paris. Its aim was to bring together international scholars from various fields who work on often difficult-to-access or hitherto unpublished source material in several languages. The resulting interactions and intersecting perspectives help to piece together many facets of that reign, thus providing a rich contribution to the history of the East in the 6th century.

Le règne de Husraw Ier Anōšīrwān / Chosroès (531-579), le plus brillant de la dynastie sassanide, fut une période-charnière dans l’histoire de l’Iran tant les projets étatiques de restructuration furent d’ampleur, affectant toutes les strates de la société – années propices aussi au développement culturel du pays et au renforcement de l’autorité royale. Aucune manifestation scientifique d’ampleur n’avait jusqu’ici été consacrée à ce sujet. La finalité du colloque dont nous publions ici les actes visait donc à réunir des spécialistes internationaux travaillant sur une documentation le plus souvent encore inaccessible voire inédite, relevant de champs disciplinaires et de langues variés. Ces interactions et regards croisés permettent de reconstruire les multiples facettes de ce règne, offrant une contribution féconde à l’histoire de l’Orient au VIe siècle.
