Regularization and integration of irregular settlements: lessons from experience

Many projects and programmes have been undertaken in cities in developing countries over the 1990 decade which provide infrastructure, services and the regularization of land tenure in irregular settlements. The present study calls for a cross-analysis of the most innovative aspects of these projects. It draws significantly on the conclusions of the 30 national case studies carried out between 1992 and 1995 by the Urban Management Programme on the theme Urban Land Management, Policies for regularization and local development in Africa, the Arab States, Asia and Latin America.
