"NE PAS RIRE, MAIS COMPRENDRE » -LA RÉCEPTION HISTORIQUE ET LE SENS GÉNÉRAL DU SPINOZISME.

Abstract : Historically, Spinoza’s philosophy has been the object of very diverse readings, sometimes as legendary as the philosopher himself. We retrace these readings and legends of its “atheism” and its “immoralism”; then, of its “orientalism”, its “acosmism”, and its “nihilism”; then, further still, of its “naturalism”, its “vitalism”, its “materialism”, and at last its “neo-stoicism”: so many influences or determinations that have historically been proposed as general meanings of Spinozism. In each case, we attempt to disentangle the part of truth involved in these readings, without ever mocking or deploring the conflict of interpretations.
