Unpublished Magdalenian art from Pont d'Ambon (Bourdeilles, Dordogne, France)

Abstract : Unpublished Magdalenian art from Pont d'Ambon (Bourdeilles, Dordogne, France). A systematic and methodical review of faunal collections from the site of Pont d'Ambon (excavations by G. Célérier), conducted as part of a Collective Research Project centered on the end of the Late Ice Age in northern Perigord, led to the discovery of three portable art objects in an upper Magdalenian context, well located from an archaeostratigraphic perspective (layer 5, square J8). These are the first portable art pieces found in the Magdalenian levels of Pont d'Ambon, which have only been excavated over 1 m. In this preliminary presentation, the authors propose a brief analysis of these pieces and reveal their originality and technical as well as stylistic characteristics.
