Valeurs et fonctions des éléments initiaux commentaires. Analyse contrastive d'un corpus d'articles de recherche en économie

Abstract : This article focuses on the functioning of one particular category of initial element, that of enunciative comments, in a corpus of economic research articles, in English and French. It is postulated that the functions and meaning of these elements can be both context- and language-dependent. Various parameters are examined and contrasted, including their syntactic composition, their precise semantic values, the type of grammatical subject they precede (noun group, personal pronoun, impersonal pronoun), their rank and their positions in the case of sequences of several initial elements, as well as their discursive and pragmatic functions. The analysis reveals certain variations in the ways the two groups of authors use this category of initial element in their articles.
