This paper will examine the way in which the transition magazine editors and frequent contributors assisted Joyce in organizing “the writing about the writing” of “Work in Progress” from 1927 to 1938. It will discuss the relation of meaning and reading in connection to the search of the “new reader” which animated the magazine from its inception.

Cet article se propose d’examiner la manière dont le magazine transition a organisé la réception, entre 1927 et 1938, du “Work in Progress” de Joyce. Il posera la question de la relation de la lecture et du sens, dans le contexte matériel et culturel de la revue, ainsi que de la recherche du « nouveau lecteur » qui est à la source de sa politique éditoriale.
