Effacer un stéréotype : les classes populaires face au droit à la santé (XIXe-XXe siècles): Erase a stereotype: working classes faced with the right to health (18th-20th centuries)

Abstract : Unlike the portrait that medical elites of the nineteenth century have transmitted to us, many sources—individual complaints and petitions, more and more numerous, that the less affluent have adressed to the health officials of the cities—show that the establishment of a health policy and public health aroused hope in populations and a new confidence with respect to official medicine. These documents invite to reflect on the origins and affirmation of public health policies whose slow, complex and rich in contradictions construction, includes the awareness by medical elites of the right to health and demand to be treated of all, including people of the working class.
