Conducting research on the ‘‘urban fabric’’ implies on the one hand an encounter between the study of social practices in the pre-industrial periods using written sources, and on the other the production of planimetric material by way of the morphological characteristics of the spaces concerned at the start of the 20th century, with a particular focus on the churches of Saint-Victor, Saint-Germain-l’Auxerrois and Sainte-Geneviève. This provides an idea of the way in which the choice of a way of life by a community, whether religious or secular, can indirectly strucure the urban fabric by influencing its relationships with the world, either distancing it from lay populations or drawing it closer.
