SIG « paysages bocagers » : un outil pour l’étude des paysages bocagers

Abstract : Nowadays the rural landscapes are considered according to their multifunctionality. The various ways they act upon ecology, economy and society remain often underestimated through lack of efficient tools and devices. This paper provides a technical and thematic approach of the setting up of a Geographic Information System (GIS) designed to study the characteristics of the bocage landscape of Britanny. The main module of this GIS is called APaRAD (still under development). Its interface is devoted to the analysis of spatial arrangements of the landscape elements. This module aims at extracting some of their specific characteristics matching to their various functions. The resulting diagnosis summarizes several indicators about the landscape structures for a particular village. These indicators are to be used as a decision support by local authorities in their regional development policy.
