Le calcul de doses médicamenteuses. Pratiques professionnelles et choix de formation en soins infirmiers

Abstract : Nurses have to calculate dosages of medications in order to administrate a prescription to a patient. Any mistake can be detrimental to the quality of the treatment. This study starts from questions raised by a team of trainers about two beliefs that they share in their professional environment and that have consequences on their didactic choices: 1° teaching a systematic calculation method would prevent mistakes; 2° many mistakes would be avoided thanks to training allowing to understand the administration of a prescription globally. The study first shows consequences of these didactic choices on the trainers’ practice and on students’ learning. Then it challenges their relevance through an evaluation of various drug calculations carried out by nurses undergoing training.
