Variabilité des précipitations et rendements du soja en région de climat de transition.

Abstract : The purpose of this study is to analyze the variability of rainfall during the rainy season (October to April) and its impact on soybean yields on the south side of the Paranapanema River Basin. This area is considered a climate transition region in the state of Paraná, in southern Brazil with high spatio-temporal variability of rainfall. We used monthly precipitation data from eighty-nine climate stations and production data of soybean yields for the hundred and thirty two municipalities in the region. Percentile statistical methods were used to represent the variations of the two data types. The results show that in this region the dependence of agriculture on climate remains important : the wettest years are favorable to good yields while dry years have, on average, lower returns. In detail, however, dry years experience strong spatial heterogeneity in yields and some wet years may also produce significant losses during periods of rain interruptions in the heart of the rainy season.
