La Symbolique de Friedrich Creuzer. Philologie, mythologie, philosophie

Résumé

This article deals with the relationship between philology - as employed in Friedrich Creuzer's work Symbolik und Mythologie der alten Völker (Symbolism and Mythology of the ancient Peoples, 1810-12) - and philosophy. After reconstructing the aims of this work and the conception of symbol and myth that forms its speculative foundation, we examine the manner in which Hegel, in his conception of the symbol, and Schelling, in his philosophy of mythology, reinterpret Creuzer's work with respect to central points of their own respective undertakings : the question of the birth of human self-consciousness or the problem of the relationship of rationality to historicity and facticity.
