Mostrar, significar, desvelar. El acto de representar segun las inscripciones medievales

Abstract : The inscriptions here evoked are placed in the heart of medieval images. They must not be considered to be autonomous texts, fixed on preexisting visual constructions. The inscription is not something added to the image; on the contrary it is ontologicaly tied to visual creative processes and to the reception of the object. The use of epigraphic writing is one of the more frequently used processes by medieval artists to act on the image and to make the image acting. Therefore, this article approaches the relation between context, support, representation modalities and epigraphic aspects of medieval images, around the question of visual efficiency.
