Résumé

First I shall briefly present the theoretical stand and hypotheses that I will adopt for my research, whose intent is to answer the following question: in what way is the urban and architectural landscape of Baghdad between 1921 and 1958 the particular expression of a particular context? Then I shall draw the mainlines of the specificity of this landscape, which was the result of a dynamic exchange between local and European tendencies, be it on the level of professional practises, cultural traditions or aesthetic codes. In the third part, I insist on the potential dangers posed by the " reconstruction- of-Baghdad " which inexorably will take place as the " reconstruction- of -Iraq".
