Le secret et la constitution de l'individu dans La Princesse de Clèves de Marie-Madeleine de Lafayette

Abstract : Often understood as a funding gesture of authenticity unique in the world of courtly love, the Princess of Cleves' aveu of her love for Nemours to her husband, as a central scene in the novel, can be regarded in quite a different way if, in construing the text, we take the care of delineating the conditions of emergence of specific discursive unities that are, within the narrative, the interior monologues of this main character. There, the secret, and thus lies, becomes one of the foundations upon which the individual psychology of the Princess is built.
