Pour une ANES à la française, contextuelle et multiniveau

Abstract : The students of French elections need a great reference survey. Several papers presented in this panel describe what its shape might be. I would like to stress one dimension that seems crucial to me: the need for this survey to be contextual and to make a multilevel analysis. Thus, French election studies will be both faithful to their traditions (Siegfried, Goguel, Mayer...) and capable of connecting with today's international election studies. By "contextual" I mean that the dataset delivered to the researchers ought to provide not only individual data, but also data relating to the (geographical, but also residential, familial, professional...) context(s) to which the individuals belong. Several methodological options can be explored to achieve this aim. "Multilevel" refers to the need of a sampling design making a multilevel analysis possible - ideally, at the département or aire urbaine level; potentially more realistically at the région, taking into account the total sample size.
