Abstract : If religious and missionary vocation makes up an answer to a deep call, it arises and grows in a milieu, a society which protects it. Starting at the prosopographie " of missionary staff of the diocese of Lyon, who went away in mission between 1815 and 1962, it was possible to study the kind of exterior influences on the vocation. It follows from this that family, parishes, schools, seminaries and religious congregations played a real part in the birth of numerous vocations.
