Sciences territoriales et territoires : les conditions de la rencontre

Abstract : Collaboration between researchers and local authorities was initiated in the early 80s by means of the territory concept emerging as a resource and a framework for development. Despite occasional yet fruitful initiatives, this process did not lead to a scientific and institutional structuring of an interface aknowledged by both sides. Facing an increasing complexity in the content and modalities of action, all kinds of territories are willing to more collaboration with research protagonists. It can only be conceived as a full association between experience and knowledge, thus taking into account both expectations and expertise of local stakeholders. Founding territorial sciences makes necessary to shape the operational and conceptual edges of a sustainable, efficient and balanced relationship between research and territories.
