Geographical identity of Europe
L’identité géographique de l’Europe
Résumé
Apprehending the geographical identity of Europe can be done by several entries according to the selected geographical branch. We examine here two aspects, on the one hand that of physical geography, branch of the geography which describes the surface of the Earth and which does not concern itself directly with the human activities, and, on the other hand, that of the geography conventional, which studies the conventional uses of institutions to denominate and thus fix geographical identities. We will seek to determine whether these two approaches can provide a specific identity that can clearly characterize Europe in the world.
