Voir et entendre les chants de la messe

Abstract : This contribution explores the different aspects of the illustration of an antiphonary fragment from the thirteenth century, very probably produced in south germany, and kept today at the walters art museum in Baltimore. The representation of the assumption of the virgin Mary shows several iconographical details which are made to create a kind of liturgical image where the synesthesy must be activated during the performance of the introit procession of the mass. One must add also a very strong theological meaning of the iconography of the image and its both liturgical and sensorial activation through the object: the liturgical book.
