The Early Modernising of Female Transgression - From 'Fiction' to 'Fact' (and Back Again)

Shows that the authors of the English play Pericles (including Shakespeare), in adapting the medieval tale of Apollonius of Tyre, altered the representation of female criminality and agency in ways matching the early modern French version produced by François de Belleforest.

Démontre que les auteurs de la pièce de théâtre anglaise Périclès (dont Shakespeare), en adaptant le conte médiéval d'Apollonie Prince de Tyre, modifiaient la représentation de la criminalité féminine d'une manière qui rappelle la version française contemporaine de François de Belleforest.
