Approche expérimentale des techniques magdaléniennes de sculpture pariétale. : Le cas d'Angles-sur-l'Anglin (Vienne).

Abstract : Technological analysis of the Magdalenian frieze at Angles-sur-l'Anglin has allowed the differentiation of several distinct sculpting techniques visible on the wall. Hundreds of tools made from river cobbles have been found in the backdirt from excavations carried out at the foot of the frieze by S. de Saint-Mathurin. It was possible to relate these tools to the execution of the parietal sculptures by microwear analysis on the tools, and by comparing the technological stigmata on the rock face with those on an experimentation made on a nearby rock face of the same type. Several types of tools thus stood out, which correspond to distinct phases of the frieze's execution. Only a tiny proportion of these pebble tools is connected with the domestic activities carried out in the dwelling area situated at the foot of the frieze.
