André Lwoff: From protozoology to molecular definition of viruses
Résumé
In his laboratory André Lwoff was at the origin of two lines of research, on enzymatic adaptation and lysogeny, the convergence of which generated the operon model. We will describe the different phases of Lwoff's work, outline some of its features, and underline the continuities behind its apparently eclectic nature (Lwoff 1971 ; Burian and Gayon 1991, 1999)
