Mémoire et héritage scientifique de William James
Résumé
If today, the scientific heritage of William James is claimed by certain partisans in behaviourism, cognitivism, and the neuroscience, it is because James' Principles of Psychology (1890) had a superior scope to that which directly influenced his own students or the legacy of American functionalism. The programmatic dimension of this work may be approached by the multiple treatment it applies to the problem of memory. The writings of James on memory, which are without a doubt less known than his work on emotions or the conscience, reveal themselves to be therefore pertinent for understanding James' enduring historic importance and his posterity as a psychologist.
