LES SIX ENJEUX DE L'ÉVOLUTION DÉMOGRAPHIQUE CHINOISE [China : six issues of population dynamics]

Abstract : [Since the beginning of the XXIst century, China seems to steal from strength to strength: economic pro- gress, successful Olympic games in August 2008, accession to the title of third space power in September 2008, sending three astronauts and greeting their return in triumph, buying European companies, accession since 2010 to second place in the world in terms of production, even though per capita, more than six times less than the U.S., and an important part of United States budget deficit.... In this context, China has become an unavoidably powerful force in the world, so essential that the French evening daily Le Monde did not hesitate to launch a special "The Chinese Century" without a question mark. Is the future of the power balance in the XXIst already written? China, who is taking a growing place in the concert of nations, would have no Achilles' heel ? On the other hand, a potential Achilles' heel arises from measurable data, partly inherited from its coercitive population policy, those proposed by the analysis of Chinese demographic evolution. Indeed this analysis highlights issues that may have geopolitical consequences, some of internal geopolitics, others more from external geopolitics.]
