Hijab and the City et la construction d'une feminité pieuse

This article focuses on regular participation of Muslim women in a blog, Hijab and the city. Created in 2008 and organized as a "webzine", this blog presents itself as a women's magazine. It has notoriety in the Muslim blogosphere. This blog promotes an "alternative" femininity that contest the pattern that is dominant in Europe and deconstructs the stereotype of the Muslim woman. The initiators of the website develop a critique of machismo and patriarchy who, according to them, condition the interpretation of religious texts. Islam is, for these bloggers, a necessary condition for the construction of a new femininity. After having deconstructed the stereotype of the occidental woman, these bloggers proceed to a naturalization of sexes based on the idea of pious femininity. These women, thanks to the negotiation of a new - above all social and political - identity, achieve in reaching a new position in power relationships, in their family as well as in the public sphere.

Cet article se propose d'analyser la participation assidue de femmes musulmanes à un blog Internet, Hijab and the city. Créé en 2008 et organisé en webzine, il se présente comme un magazine féminin et il bénéficie déjà d'une bonne notoriété dans la blogosphère musulmane. Le blog promeut une féminité " alternative " contestant le modèle féminin dominant en Europe et déconstruisant le stéréotype de la femme musulmane. Les initiatrices de ce site développent de même une critique du machisme et du patriarcat qui, selon elles, conditionnent l'interprétation des textes religieux. La religion musulmane apparaît, pour ces bloggeuses, être une condition nécessaire à la construction d'une nouvelle féminité. Après avoir adroitement déconstruit l'idéaltype de la femme occidentale, les bloggeuses opèrent une réessentialisation des sexes autour de l'idée d'une féminité pieuse. La négociation d'une nouvelle identité, avant tout sociale et politique, permet à ces femmes de se repositionner dans les rapports de force autant au sein de leurs familles qu'au niveau de la sphère publique
